Week 5
Assignment #1: 90-100% Independent Reading Level
Assignment #2: 70-85% Instructional Reading Level
Assignment #3: below 70% Frustration Reading Level
Assignment #4
Mary did not seem to have much prior knowledge about whales
and fish. On the Oral Reading Miscue Analysis, Mary scored on the instructional
level for accuracy and at the independent level for acceptability. Mary also
scored at the instructional level for the Assessment of Comprehension through
Unaided Recall.
Overall, this passage seemed to be at the instructional
level for Mary. This means that Mary should continue to receive such passages
for reading, not below the instructional level and not above until level 2
passages become at her independent reading level. I feel that Mary is doing
well even though she is at level 2 when she should be at level 3 because she is
an ELL. I feel that Mary needs more practice in first just word decoding before
comprehension, because once she can read more accurately only then can she
focus on the content. After more practice on word decoding on level 2 and them
on reading comprehension on level 2, I feel that soon she will be on level
three. It is just a matter of practicing and reading more and more.
