Week 3, Assignment #3
1.
The QRI5 is an individually
administered informal reading inventory (IRI) designed to provide information
about (1) conditions under which students can identify words and comprehend
text successfully and (2) conditions that appear to result in unsuccessful word
identification or comprehension.
2.
The purpose of the QRI5 is
to know at what level a student is standing by in reading which gives the
teacher a better idea of how to group students for guided reading, choosing the
appropriate books for literacy circles, reading workshops, and independent
reading, and it can provide information
for designing and evaluating intervention instruction.
3.
I am new to official
reading assessments, so the only other official assessment that I have seem
close enough to the QRI5 is the Running Record we learned about in Dr. Hsu’s
class. The running record also tells use at what reading level a students is
at. A teacher will know what level books to give a student after performing a
running record. They will also know how to group them and by administering the
running record a few times a year, the teacher can monitor the student’s
progress as well.
4.
The QRI5 seems like a
really amazing assessment tool for reading. I like the fact that the results
are interpreted according to the individual and not the norm. This definitely
makes the participant feel like an individual and not a percentage. They also
do not have to feel inferior because they are assessed according to themselves,
not the rest of the world. The QRI5 also seems like an extremely detailed and
specific assessment. This gives teachers a very clear idea of the students’
current reading level and in what areas they need instruction or intervention.
