Week 7, Assignment #5 After assessing a student in these four areas, print awareness, phonological and phonemic awareness, phonics, and fluency, these are the results I found: Print Awareness - the student grasped the concept of print awareness easily. I was watching her eyes and was able to see that she always read from left to right and from top to bottom. She fully understood that lines in the form of letters are meaningful. Phonological and phonemic awareness - again the students seemed to have understood the concept well. She was able to sound out the syllables of a word and most of the time when prompted answered the correct amount of syllables per word. The student recognized rhyme and even came up with rhyming words on her own! Phonics - the student was able to say letter sounds very well and was able to connect the beginning sound of one word with other words with the same beginning sound. Week 5 Assignment #1: 90-100% Independent Reading Level Assignment #2: 70-85% Instructional Reading Level Assignment #3: below 70% Frustration Reading Level Assignment #4 Mary did not seem to have much prior knowledge about whales and fish. On the Oral Reading Miscue Analysis, Mary scored on the instructional level for accuracy and at the independent level for acceptability. Mary also scored at the instructional level for the Assessment of Comprehension through Unaided Recall. Overall, this passage seemed to be at the instructional level for Mary. This means that Mary should continue to receive such passages for reading, not below the instructional level and not above until level 2 passages become at her independent reading level. I feel that Mary is doing well even though she is at level 2 when she should be at level 3 because she is an ELL. I feel that Mary needs more practice in first just word decoding before comprehension, because once she can read more accurately onl...
