Week 2
Assignment #3
I really like the way these video clips and readings broke
down reading into different aspects of reading. If I am teaching children how
to read, it is so much easier to figure out what a students is struggling with
when reading is broken up into different parts than to just noticing that a
student is having a “reading problem.” This information helped me understand
that is a students read words correctly for example, but lacks expression they
probably have a fluency issue, or if a student cannot answer questions about
what they read then they have trouble with comprehension, or if they get
confused between similar words than they may have a hard time with
understanding sounds of speech and so forth. When these specific reading issues
are identified the child can be helped much more efficiently addressing their
specific need more accurately.
You are very right, Shaindy, great observations! It makes so much sense- how can we know how to help a child if we do not even know which exact area they are having difficulty with? It takes a lot of time and effort, but it is the only way to do it right!
