Hi, my name is Shaindy Schwartz. I grew up in Brooklyn, New York and I am currently living in Jerusalem, Israel with my husband and baby. If I were to write a book about myself, I would call it, “Shaindy: Past, Present, and Future,” because I would tell you about my past, where I am and what I am doing now, and future goals/plans I have. I like corny jokes, that being said a man walked into a bar, ouch! As of now, I am not teaching or working because I consider being a wife, mom, and college student to be a full time job. I taught fifth grade (for only three months because then I got married and moved out of Brooklyn) in a Jewish religious all girl school in Brooklyn. I taught math, science, history, literature, spelling, and vocabulary. I am not sure what the Teacher Education or MSIT program is referring to. True, it was not that much experience, but I feel that first me being more educated in the field will make me become a better teacher therefore right now I am first focusing on pursuing my degree. I do plan on going back to teaching when I graduate. Teaching is a field where I really find myself enjoying; I love working with children and it gives me a lot of satisfaction. Whatever I know about teaching language arts is just from what I learned from my teachers when I was in grade school. I know a little bit about “new literacies” from other courses that I have taken at NYIT. My main concern for taking this course is being able to keep up with the work because I am taking three other courses as well and like I mentioned before I am also busy taking care of my baby. Week 4, Assignment #1 From reading about RTI and watching the videos provided, I understand that RTI is a program to intervene for struggling students in any subject area which can be divided into three levels. The first level is core or universal outcomes and teaching/caregiving strategies.
